The Sacred Band of Thebes

Ancient Greece erupts with Gay Eros! From the romance of Achilles and Patroclus, to Plato’s symposium where he declared that Gay love breeds “children of the mind” like art, music, democracy, and philosophy, and these “children” potentially live forever.

Check out some hot Greek couple action with The Sacred Band of Thebes a Handpicked army of lovers made up of 150 male-male couples. The forty years of their known existence marked Thebes as the greatest military and political power in the known world. The Sacred Band battled the Spartans in 375 BC, defeating an army that was at least three times its size.

“A state or an army should be made up of lovers and their loves, they would be the very best governors of their own city, abstaining from all dishonour, and emulating one another in honour; and when fighting at each other's side, although a mere handful, they would overcome the world. For who would desert his beloved or fail him in the hour of danger?” – Plato’s Symposium

In the first Gay Liberation marches of the 70’s the Theban band became the inspiration for gay Lib protesters who chanted “An Army of Lovers can Never be Defeated”!
The Lion of Chaironeia is a marble funerary monument that marks the communal grave of the Sacred Band of Thebes

  1. Gay spirit leaves and has left such a beautiful legacy/progeny of the mind, art, soul, & love! It's wonderful to have such examples of the power and potential of gay spirit in areas people don't normally associate with like the Sacred Band of Thebes.
